Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB), Bhopal has released the Rule Book for “Subedar/Sub Inspector Cadre Recruitment Selection Examination 2026” on behalf of the Police Headquarters, Home (Police) Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, for filling 507 vacancies across non-technical and technical Sub Inspector/Subedar cadre posts.

4. Pay Scale

All posts (Subedar and all Sub Inspector cadres): Level-9, ₹36,200 – ₹1,14,800. Newly recruited candidates will draw a step-pay of 70% of the pay scale in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year, as per the applicable stipend rules.

Minimum age: 18 years. Maximum age: 33 years as on 23 September 2026 for General/Open category candidates (both MP-domicile and other-state candidates).

Educational Qualification

Post Qualification
Subedar, Sub Inspector (SAF), Sub Inspector (DEF) Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, or equivalent
Sub Inspector (Arms) 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised technical university
Sub Inspector (Photo / Q.D. / Finger Print) Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry from a government-recognised university, or equivalent

Candidates having more than 2 living children, of whom any one was born on or after 26 January 2001, are generally not eligible for appointment (with a specific exception where one child is living and 2 or more are born in a subsequent multiple birth). 6. Application Fee

Departmental Examination Fee (for existing police department candidates, Main Examination processing fee): Unreserved ₹200/-; SC/ST/OBC/EWS ₹100/-.

In addition, a portal charge applies: ₹60/- for candidates applying through an MP Online kiosk, and ₹20/- for candidates applying via a registered citizen login.

7. Selection Process

Selection is conducted in two stages as per the Rule Book:

Stage 1 Preliminary Written Examination (objective/multiple-choice type), conducted by MPESB. Result is provisional; qualifying in the Preliminary exam does not by itself entitle a candidate to the next stage.
Stage 2(a) Main Written Examination, conducted by MPESB. Candidates equal to 10 times the advertised vacancies (per post) are called, based on Preliminary exam cut-off percentile.
Stage 2(b) Physical Efficiency Test (PET): 800 metre race, Shot Put and Long Jump. Candidates equal to 3 times the advertised vacancies (per post) are called, based on Main exam cut-off percentile. Original certificates are also verified at this stage.
Stage 2(c) Interview

No exemption from the Physical Efficiency Test is given on health or any other grounds, and once scheduled, the PET date will not be changed for any candidate.

8. Exam Day Instructions

Original photo ID Mandatory (Voter ID, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, or Passport) – candidates without one will not be permitted to sit the exam
Electronic devices Mobile phones, calculators, log tables and sunglasses are strictly prohibited in the exam hall
Reporting time Candidates arriving after the reporting time will not be permitted entry
Exit from exam hall Not permitted before the exam session ends

What is the educational qualification required?

A Bachelor’s degree is required for Subedar, SI (SAF) and SI (DEF). SI (Arms) requires a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. SI (Photo/Q.D./Finger Print) requires a Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Can candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh apply?
