1. Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Shiksha Seva Chayan Aayog (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released Advertisement No. 05/2026 for the Selection Examination (Chayan Pariksha), 2026 to fill the posts of Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban (under the Basic Education Department / U.P. Basic Shiksha Parishad) and Assistant Teacher, Sambaddha Primary, Boy/Girl (Non-Government Aided School, under the Secondary Education Department). A total of 12,405 posts are available — 11,508 posts for Assistant Teacher (Urban) and 897 posts for Assistant Teacher Sambaddha Primary (473 in Boys’ schools and 424 in Girls’ schools). Candidates have to apply online only through UPESSC’s OTR (One Time Registration) based online application system.

2. Vacancy Details

2.1 Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban (Basic Education Department) — 11,508 posts (category-wise total, out of 75 districts):

Of these, 429 posts are earmarked for Divyang (PwD) candidates (VI: 83, LI: 83, HI: 83, Thalassemia: 83, VI/LI/HI/Thalassemia as per merit: 97), and further posts are reserved for dependents of freedom fighters (198) and Ex-Servicemen (540) on a horizontal basis. 3. Eligibility Criteria

(A) Assistant Teacher, Primary, Urban: A Bachelor’s degree from a university established by law in India, or an equivalent degree recognised by the Government, along with a Government-recognised training qualification such as Basic Teacher Certificate (B.T.C.), two-year B.T.C. (Urdu), Special B.T.C., a two-year Diploma in Special Education recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, a four-year degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.), or a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per the National Council for Teacher Education (Recognition, Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002 — and the candidate must have qualified the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the State Government or the Government of India. (Note: the B.T.C. course is currently run under the name D.L.Ed.)

(B) Assistant Teacher, Sambaddha Primary (Non-Government Aided School): (i) A Bachelor’s degree from a university/institution established by law or recognised by the Government, or a deemed university; (ii) B.T.C. or D.L.Ed. in a course recognised by the NCTE; and (iii) must have successfully qualified the Teacher Eligibility Test (T.E.T.) for Classes 1 to 5, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Government or the Government of India.

7. Selection Process

Selection for both posts will be made through a merit list based on a written examination of 360 marks, consisting of 120 objective-type (MCQ) questions. The exam duration is 2 hours. Each correct answer carries 3 marks, while a wrong or multiple-marked answer attracts a deduction of 1 mark (negative marking). The question paper will be set in both English and Hindi. If the merit of more than one candidate is equal, preference will first go by higher percentage of marks in graduation, then by percentage of marks in the training qualification, and finally to the candidate with higher age.

8. How to Apply

Eligible candidates must apply online only, through the OTR (One Time Registration) based application system on the Commission’s official website, www.upessc.up.gov.in. One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory before applying. The registration and application form must compulsorily be filled in English. Once the application is finally submitted, no change in category, sub-category, date of birth, or gender will be permitted, so candidates should fill in all details carefully before submitting.
