The written exam duration is 2 hours. Each correct answer carries 3 marks, while a wrong or multiple-marked answer attracts a deduction of 1 mark (negative marking). The question paper is bilingual (Hindi and English), except for language-subject papers which are set only in that language (e.g. Hindi paper in Hindi, Sanskrit paper in Sanskrit, Urdu paper in Urdu).
If the merit of more than one candidate is equal, preference is given first by higher marks in the written exam, then by interview marks, then by higher percentage in postgraduation, and finally by higher percentage in the B.Ed. training qualification; if all these are equal, the candidate with higher age is placed higher.
