1. Top Summary

The Subordinate Services Selection Board (SSSB), Punjab has released Advertisement No. 12 of 2026 to fill 70 Group-C posts in various departments of the Government of Punjab. The posts include Clerk (Legal), Clerk (Accounts), Clerk (IT), Driver, Translator and Field Artist. Eligible candidates can apply online only through the Board’s website from 25 September 2026 to 19 October 2026. Selection will be through an objective-type written exam, a Punjabi and English typing test for Clerk posts, and counselling for document verification.

4. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Post / Department Qualification
Driver (Rural Development & Panchayat) Matric pass; valid driving licence for light and heavy vehicles; minimum 3 years of driving experience.
Clerk (Legal) – all departments Law Graduate from a recognised university/institution; must qualify the competitive test and a Punjabi & English typing test at 30 wpm.
Clerk (Accounts) – Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training Graduation with at least one subject of Statistics or Mathematics or Accounts, and Punjabi up to Matric; competitive test + typing test (30 wpm).
Clerk (Accounts) – Excise & Taxation Degree in Commerce from a recognised university/institution; competitive test + typing test (30 wpm).
Clerk (IT) – Excise & Taxation Graduate in Computer Application / Information Technology / Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Computer Technology; competitive test + typing test (30 wpm).
Clerk (IT) – Labour Commissioner B.Tech (Computer Science) or B.Sc. (IT) or BCA, or a Graduate with PGDCA, or equivalent/higher qualification in the relevant discipline; competitive test + typing test (30 wpm).
Clerk (IT) – Civil Aviation B.E./B.Tech in IT or Electronics & Communication or Computer Science with minimum 50% marks; OR BCA with minimum 50% marks and 2 years’ experience in Information & Communication Technology; Punjabi at Matric level; typing test (30 wpm).
Translator (Labour Commissioner) Graduation from a recognised university; AND a 120-hour computer course (Office Productivity / DTP) from a Government-recognised or ISO 9001 certified institution, OR a course equivalent to DOEACC ‘O’ Level.

7. Selection Process

Driver, Translator & Field Artist

  • Objective-type (MCQ) written exam in two parts – Part A and Part B.
  • Part A: Punjabi language paper of Matric (10th) standard – qualifying only; minimum 50% marks required.
  • Part B: Merit list is prepared on the basis of Part B marks only. Each question carries 1 mark and ¼ mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Candidates are then called for counselling / document verification on the basis of merit.

Clerk (Legal), Clerk (Accounts) & Clerk (IT)

  • Objective-type (MCQ) written exam with Part A (Punjabi, Matric level – qualifying, 50% minimum) and Part B (merit; 1 mark per question, ¼ negative marking).
  • Shortlisted candidates take a typing test in English and Punjabi at 30 words per minute on computer. The Punjabi typing test will be in the Unicode-compliant Raavi font. The typing test is qualifying only but compulsory.
  • A Common Merit List is prepared from Part B marks of candidates who pass the typing test.
  • Counselling / document verification follows; the department preference for Clerk (Legal) and Clerk (IT) will be taken later.

Tie-breaking Rule

If two or more candidates score equal marks, the older candidate (by date of birth) is placed higher. If still tied, the candidate with a higher percentage in the required educational qualification is placed higher, and then the candidate with higher Matric marks.

8. How to Apply

  1. Visit the official website sssb.punjab.gov.in and click the “Apply Online” link for Advertisement No. 12 of 2026.
  2. New users click “Registration” and fill in their details. The e-mail ID entered becomes the User ID, and a password is generated. Keep them safe.
  3. Log in and fill in personal, educational and other details correctly.
  4. Upload a passport-size photograph (or capture a live photo by camera) and a scanned signature. Applications without photo and signature will be rejected.
  5. Click “Save Draft” / “Next”, then “Attach Annexure” and upload scanned copies (PDF) of the 10th certificate, qualification certificates and other required documents. Click “Save Documents”.
  6. Click “Make Payment” and pay the fee online.
  7. Click “Submit” and take a printout of the application form for future reference.

Once submitted, no correction can be made to the application form, including category and category code. Incomplete draft applications can be reopened from “Menu > View Status of Application > View Incomplete Application”. Applications sent by any other mode will not be accepted.

10. Grounds for Rejection of Candidature

  • Full fee not received or not paid in the prescribed manner.
  • Incomplete or incorrect information in the application.
  • Online application process not fully completed.
  • Debarred by SSSB or any other institution.
  • Not meeting the educational qualification, age, reservation or other conditions.
  • Applying through any mode other than the Board’s website.
  • Applying under a category for which no post is advertised.
  • Government employees not applying through proper channel.

11. Important Instructions

  • Candidates should fill the form themselves and not rely on cyber café attendants; the candidate is responsible for any error.
  • Exam dates, admit cards, syllabus/pattern, results and merit lists will be uploaded only on the Board’s website. No individual communication will be sent.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for the written exam or counselling.
  • The number of posts may be increased or decreased, or the advertisement withdrawn, at any stage based on the department’s requisition.
  • Ex-Servicemen posts will first be filled by ESM (Self) candidates, and only if they are not available, by ESM (Dependent) candidates.
  • Women candidates get reservation as per the Punjab Civil Services (Reservation of Posts for Women) Rules, 2020.
